Japan Shin-Etsu KY-1203 UV Additive

Shin-Etsu KY-1203 is a UV/EB curable fluorinated acrylic antifouling additive (commonly known as an anti-fingerprint oil additive) belonging to the SUBELYN® KY-1200 series. It is primarily added in very small amounts to existing UV-curable acrylic resins or hard film coatings. After curing, the fluorine segments spontaneously migrate and accumulate on the outermost surface of the coating, thus imparting extremely excellent hydrophobic, oleophobic, antifouling, and fingerprint-resistant properties to the substrate surface.

Product Overview

Key Physical Properties

  • Appearance: Transparent to pale yellow liquid
  • Effective Solids Content: 20 wt%
  • Solvent Type: MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone), MIBK (Methyl Isobutyl Ketone)
  • Viscosity (25ºC): 1.2 mm²/s
  • Specific Gravity (25ºC): 0.88 - 0.89

Surface Performance Comparison

  • Adding KY-1203 to the UV hard coating significantly alters the surface's physicochemical properties.
  • Water contact angle: Dramatically increased from 59º to 114º (exhibiting extremely strong superhydrophobicity, water droplets resemble lotus leaves).
  • Oleic acid contact angle: Increased from 22º to 73º (significantly improving oil and fingerprint resistance).
  • Dynamic coefficient of friction: Dropped from 0.6 to 0.1 (the surface becomes extremely smooth, scratch-resistant, and stains are wiped away very easily).

Key Product Advantages:

  • Excellent Solubility: Highly compatible with conventional acrylic compounds and UV resins, without affecting the overall stability of the coating.
  • Long-lasting High Transparency: The extremely thin surface fluorine layer does not sacrifice the original high light transmittance and optical properties of the substrate.
  • Extremely Low Dynamic Friction: Provides a silky-smooth surface feel, significantly reducing the damping sensation of touchscreens or housings.

Common Application Scenarios

  • Electronic Product Casings: Mobile phone back covers, laptop casings, white goods panels.
  • Optical Films: Hard-coated films for various displays, anti-reflective films (AR films).
  • Touch Screens: Wear-resistant and stain-resistant coatings for automotive center console screens, mobile phone and tablet touchscreens.
  • Plastic Substrate Modification: Surface hard film reinforcement for materials such as PC (polycarbonate), PMMA (acrylic), and PET.
