3M™ Novec™ 7100 Engineered Fluid

3M™ Novec™ 7100 electronic fluorinated fluid (chemical composition: methoxynonafluorobutane, C₄F₉OCH₃) is a non-recognized flammable, insulating, and high-boiling-point hydrofluoroether (HFE) engineering fluid. Due to its extremely low surface tension and good solubility, it is widely used as a high-end precision cleaning agent and heat transfer medium.

Product Overview

Key Physical Properties

  • Boiling point: 61°C, significantly higher than Novec 7000 (34°C), with a moderate evaporation rate.
  • Freezing point: -135°C. Surface tension: 13.6 dynes/cm, providing excellent penetration and cleaning even the smallest crevices.
  • Dielectric strength: >25 kV (0.1-inch gap), excellent insulation, safe for live cleaning.
  • Flash point: None (non-flammable).
  • Environmental/Safety: Ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0, Global warming potential (GWP) of 320, extremely low toxicity (8-hour average exposure limit of 750 ppm).

Main Application Scenarios

  • Electronics and Precision Cleaning: Primarily used for vapor degreasing and ultrasonic cleaning, it efficiently removes light oil, particles, flux, and fluoropolymers, commonly used in aerospace and high-end electronic assembly.
  • Lubricant Carrier: Serves as a diluent for fluorinated or silicon-based lubricants, leaving no residue after evaporation.
  • Single-phase/Two-phase Heat Transfer Fluids: Due to their more moderate boiling point, they are commonly used in immersion cooling systems for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and data centers.
  • Special Scientific Applications: Used for forensic fingerprint identification (latent fingerprint development), biological specimen preservation, and historical document protection.
