3M™ Novec™ 7500 Engineered Fluid

3M™ Novec™ 7500 Electronic Fluorinated Fluoride (chemical composition: 3-ethoxy-1,1,1,2,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,6-dodecano-2-trifluoromethylhexane, CAS No. 297730-93-9) is an ultra-stable hydrofluoroether (HFE) engineering fluid with an extremely wide operating temperature range and an extremely high boiling point (128°C) in the Novec basic series. It is specifically designed to replace perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs) with high global warming potential (GWP) as a high- and low-temperature heat transfer fluid for advanced electronics and semiconductors.

Product Overview

Key Physical Properties

  • Liquid holding range: -100°C to 128°C. This is its most robust characteristic, maintaining a liquid state over an extremely wide temperature range, possessing both an extremely low freezing point and a high boiling point.
  • Boiling point: 128°C, higher than Novec 7300 (98°C), with near-zero evaporation loss at high temperatures.
  • Dielectric strength: Approximately 35-40 kV, excellent electrical insulation properties, suitable for direct contact heat dissipation with energized electronic components.
  • Flowability (kinematic viscosity): Only 0.77 cSt at 25°C; exhibits excellent pumping and convective heat transfer efficiency even at extreme low temperatures of -50°C.
  • Safety and environmental friendliness: No flash point (non-flammable); extremely low GWP (Global Warming Potential); ODP value of 0; extremely low toxicity.

Main Application Scenarios

  • Semiconductor Manufacturing Thermal Management: Primarily used in cooling and temperature control systems for ion implanters, dry etchers, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment.
  • Extreme Thermal Shock Testing: Semiconductor chips and sensitive military electronic components require alternating hot and cold cycle testing before leaving the factory; this liquid is an ideal medium for these cycles.
  • Microfluidics and Biomedicine: In droplet microfluidics, Novec 7500 is often used in conjunction with special surfactants as an oil phase to stabilize generated biological droplets (commonly used in single-cell sequencing, single-cell gene editing, and other fields).
  • Liquid Cooling for Special Electronic Equipment: Used for single-phase or two-phase immersion liquid cooling in high-voltage transformers, power electronic equipment, and supercomputers.
