Solvay Fluorolink E10-H

Fluorolink® E10-H is a high-performance ethoxylated perfluoropolyether (PFPE) diol manufactured by Solvay (with its specialty chemicals portfolio now under Syensqo). It is designed as a reactive chemical building block and surface modifier. By reacting through its terminal hydroxyl (-OH) groups, it chemically bonds into polymer matrices to provide exceptional surface properties.

Product Overview

Key Chemical & Physical Properties
  • Chemical Type: Ethoxylated PFPE-diol
  • Appearance: Clear, slightly yellowish liquid
  • Equivalent Weight: ~800 - 1100 AMW (average molecular weight typically around 1,500 g/mol)
  • Refractive Index: 1.317 (@ 20 °C)
  • Melting Point: -100 °C
  • Density: 1.73 g/mL (@ 20 °C)
  • Solubility: Soluble in fluorinated solvents, alcohols, and ketones; insoluble in water.
Main Applications and Functions
  • Used as a surface modifier, adding just 0.5% to 5% w/w allows the fluorinated chains to migrate to the surface. This dramatically alters surface behavior without affecting the bulk mechanical properties of the base material:
  • Polymer Modification: Chemically modifies polyurethanes, polyesters, epoxies, and acrylates.
  • Protective Coatings: Imparts excellent hydrophobic (water-repellent) and oleophobic (oil-repellent) properties, leading to anti-fingerprint and easy-graffiti-removal surfaces.
  • Lubricity & Wear Resistance: Significantly lowers the coefficient of friction and enhances surface slip and scratch resistance.
  • Optical Tuning: Utilizes its low refractive index for specialty optical coatings or gloss adjustment.
